Overview

In the wake of recent events such as the Amber Harrison/Channel 7 case, the AFL senior male/junior female relationships case, Harvey Weinstein and #metoo, the aged care industry has become sensitive to a number of issues arising:

  • sexual or other interpersonal relationships between staff and
  • their ramifications in workplaces.

Most organisations will have sexual harassment policies and the like in place.  But in light of the current focus on these issues, what should you do to avoid issues arising?

Join Stephen Booth from Coleman Greig Lawyers to delve into:

  • essential policy content
  • managing to the policy
  • dealing with issues: grievances, complaints, scuttlebutt
  • what is personal and private, and what isn’t?
  • morality and values
  • public relationships v secret relationships
  • relationships between superiors and subordinates
  • timeliness, transparency, fairness
  • being alert to how things look:
is it the junior person who “moves on”?
    is that defensible?

Stephen will look more closely at some of the cases which have attracted media and legal attention, and also some fact situations arising from his practice which cast light on how to handle, and how not to handle, these issues.
