Overview

This practical one day workshop will focus on the knowledge and skills required to develop a client centred leisure program.  The four fundamentals principles of effective programming - assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation - will be explored and participants will have the opportunity to begin to develop a repertoire of activities and program ideas to be used with a range of clients including clients with dementia.  Practical tips on effective documentation will also be included.

Target Audience

This course is designed for program coordinators, diversional therapists, activity officers and volunteers who work in centre based and residential care settings

  • Understand the benefits of leisure participation for clients
  • Apply the processes of assessment, planning and evaluation when designing a leisure based program
  • Understand effective facilitation techniques
  • Begin to develop a range of leisure activity ideas including engaging activities for people with dementia
  • Network with other practitioners in the field
